Pit FAQ

Have all your questions answered about Pit, a Discord MUD.

What is Pit?

Pit is a text-based, multi-user dungeon rogue-like that you play through Discord. Travel through the depths of Burgaleth's Pit, fighting monstrous enemies, amassing legendary items, and learning unique abilities. Countless events await you at the bottom of the Pit and on your journey to the surface. With each run, unlock content for your server to customize the Pit how you see fit.

How do I play?

You can either join an existing server with the PitRPG bot, or you can add the bot to one of your own servers. You can immediately start playing by running the #start command, but we recommend reading through the #help command first.

Things to note:

  • Pit is played through direct messages with the bot. You may need to change your profile settings in Discord to allow server members to direct message you.
  • You can only play in one server at a time. Once your run is over, you can pick up and play in another server. You won't be able to transfer mid-run, but your data will be kept across different servers.
  • Pit is difficult! You might not get far on your first few tries as you figure things out, and that's okay. Connect with more experienced players if you're having trouble or join our Discord server where developers and other players can give you a hand as well.

I used #start; now what?

When you first start playing Pit, you'll be messaged by the bot. Most of what you'll be doing from here on out will be in direct messages. If you're ever confused as to what you should be doing, try using the #actions command to check if you're in an event and which options you have available to you. If you're not in an event, you can always use #wander to find one. The main loop of the game is wandering into events, completing them, and wandering to the next event.

In order to win, you must climb all 20 floors of the Pit without dying. If you die, you will have to start over at the bottom.
